In his life and ministry, Jesus made friends with the powerless and challenged those who abused authority. The church is called to participate in this same ministry as we share together in the life of Christ. The Social Justice Committee at SHUC was formed to take action to uphold the individual worth, equality and dignity of all people. The Committee strives to work in solidarity with those who experience injustice, oppression or abuse of their human rights. The committee also acts as an advocate for the environment and works toward social good in the community. Guided by the Synod's Department of Justice and International Mission, we provide the congregation with postcards, petitions and drafted letters on justice issues, and encourage their delivery to governments and people of influence.
